Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Myles Garrett took some time to celebrate with his family after breaking the single-season NFL sack record.
Garrett recorded his 23rd sack of the season in the fourth quarter of the Browns’ 20-18 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, January 4, passing the mark of 22.5 sacks previously set by Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001 and matched by Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt in 2021.
After the game, Garrett, 30, ran over to his friends and family in the crowd, giving out hugs and kisses to celebrate the historic moment.
“I can’t wait to go and see [my family],” Garrett said to CBS’s Amanda Balionis after the game. “Whenever I break from here I’m going to go jump into the stands. They’ve supported me every step of the way. I’m just so blessed and fortunate to have them.”

The record-setting sack came with just five minutes left in the final game of the season. Garrett admitted to Balionis that he was “nervous as hell” about missing out on the record.
“I had a dream last night that I didn’t get it, and all the feelings that come with that,” Garrett said. “I woke up — I think I was sweating — and I said there’s no way I’m going to let that be my destiny. So just fighting like hell to rewrite not only history, but my own destiny.”
After putting pressure on Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for much of the game, Garrett finally broke through late. After the sack, he put his hands up in relief, then was swarmed by his teammates. Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris was so happy he even high-fived one of the referees in a hilarious moment.
His parents could be seen hugging in the crowd.

They make it a joy to show up every day at work. I’ve loved every second of this year, being able to work with guys like this, coaches like this, it’s honestly been a real pleasure.”
Garrett was the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, and is the heavy favorite to win it again this season. He’s the first player in NFL history to record at least 12 sacks in six consecutive seasons and he’s had at least 10 sacks in eight straight years.
The Browns finish the season at 5-12 and have been eliminated from the playoffs since Week 14. Despite the lost season, the team rallied around Garrett’s quest for history in the final few weeks.
Olympian Chloe Kim and NFL’s Myles Garrett Confirm Romance With Pregame Kiss
Back in November, Garrett and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim went public with their relationship with a pregame kiss before the Browns game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kim, 25, is a two-time gold medalist.
Rumors of the star athletes’ relationship started swirling back in May when the two were seen together on the red carpet of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo, where Kim was a presenter.
In August, Kim visited Garrett at Browns training camp and shared pictures on her Instagram Story. A month later, she shared a carousel of photos via Instagram, one of which appeared to show Garrett’s back.
