Report: Sam Leavitt to visit LSU after Brendan Sorsby ends up at Texas Tech ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

Former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt continues to work through the transfer portal process, reportedly visiting LSU in the coming days after a weekend visit to Kentucky.

It was initially expected a trip to Texas Tech would follow his Kentucky visit, but before Leavitt could arrive in Lubbock, the Red Raiders found their quarterback in Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Texas Tech was in on both Sorsby and Leavitt, as was LSU. Leavitt is expected to arrive in Baton Rouge on Monday morning.

While the Kentucky landing spot was previously on the table for Leavitt in what could have developed into a 1-for-1 quarterback swap with Kentucky transfer Cutter Boley picking ASU, the signal caller now could end up at a national contender in a move that would resemble one in recent memory.

Another recent star quarterback for ASU, Jayden Daniels, transferred to LSU after three seasons as a starter, closely lining up with Leavitt transferring after two years in Tempe.

Should Leavitt follow the same path, it would pair him with offensive guru — and a controversial figure in his own right — Lane Kiffin, the Tigers’ new head coach.

More about Sam Leavitt’s time at ASU

Leavitt broke out in 2024 with 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns (six interceptions), adding 443 yards and five scores on the ground. Along with running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, Leavitt was one of the top offensive stars on a team that won the Big 12 Championship and reached the College Football Playoff.

His 2025 campaign was plagued by injuries as he missed ASU’s Week 7 game against Utah due to a foot injury. He returned the following week against Texas Tech, throwing for more than 300 yards in an upset win.

Leavitt then exited the next game against Houston twice and later underwent season-ending foot surgery, missing the Sun Devils’ last five games.

He finished his redshirt sophomore campaign with 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns (three interceptions) through the air with 300 yards and five scores on the ground.

Signs of Leavitt’s departure started on Nov. 18 when it was reported his camp was shopping his services to other teams.

After the season, ASU coach Kenny Dillingham reportedly wished him well at the team’s banquet that Leavitt did not attend.

ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti reported on Dec. 9 that Leavitt informed Dillingham he intended to enter the transfer portal. He eventually did so with a “do not contact” tag attached.
