A high-ranking Chicago Police Department official died following an emergency on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Deputy Chief William Betancourt passed away after experiencing a medical emergency while off-duty, CPD said in a statement.
“Deputy Chief Betancourt embodied what it meant to be a public servant and a great leader throughout his career at the Chicago Police Department,” the statement read, in part. “He will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters at the Chicago Police Department.”
Chicago police asked that residents keep the Betancourt family in their prayers.
