Grace Sorensen from Bellingham, Washington, has committed to Rutgers University for 2026-27. She confirmed to SwimSwam:
“I’m so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Rutgers University! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and incredible teammates on BBST. I’m so excited to be able to compete on this amazing team. Go Knights!!”
Sorensen swims for Bellingham High School and Bellingham Bay Swim Team. She specializes in butterfly and mid-distance freestyle. As a junior, she won the 200 free (1:51.95) and 100 fly (55.87) last November at the WIAA Girls 2A State Swimming and Diving Championships. Her 200 free time was a lifetime best. A month later, she swam at 2024 Winter Juniors West, competing in the 200/500 free and 100/200 fly, and picking up a new PB in the 500 (5:02.09).
This fall, she achieved PBs in the 500 free (4:54.56) at the Folsom Classic in November; in the 1000 free (10:05.97) at Winter Juniors West in December; and in the 50 free (23.86), 200 free (1:50.58), and 1650 free (17:14.24) at the Washington State Senior Short Course Championships in December.
In the summer of 2025, she competed at Sacramento Futures, where she finaled in the 50/100/200 fly and earned new LCM bests in the 100 free (58.60) and 200 fly (2:18.25). The next week, she was in Irvine at Summer Junior Nationals competing in the 400 free and 100/200 fly. She finaled in the 200 fly (2:18.35 for 29th place) and was just off her PB (1:02.20) in the 100 fly.
