Alabama was shutout in the first half against Indiana in the Rose Bowl on Thursday afternoon.
As they did vs. Oklahoma in the first round, the Crimson Tide struggled to move the ball early in this contest. Alabama‘s first 2 drives accounted for just 27 yards on 12 plays. A third drive ended in a punt.
Alabama’s final full drive of the half ended after Ty Simpson fumbled shortly after picking up a first down.
When all was said and done in the first half, Alabama didn’t run a single play in the red zone. The Crimson Tide also averaged just 3.9 yards per play before the break.
These struggles continue a concerning trend for Alabama. Despite having a strong offensive coaching staff led by Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb, Alabama’s offense generated fewer than 4 yards per play in both against both Auburn and Georgia before the start of the CFP.
If Alabama is going to dig out of its halftime deficit, it will need much better play in the second half from its offense. In the meantime, Alabama fans and media were very critical of DeBoer, Grubb and Simpson during the first half.
