Floatfest gives fans an up-close look at Rose Parade entries ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

For Rose Parade fans who weren’t up to a Thursday morning spent in the rain, the annual display of floats is expanding this year, so there’s another chance to see the floats up close.

“Floatfest: A Rose Parade Showcase presented by Go Bowling” will feature a full two miles of floats for fans to get an in-person look at the posy-packed entries.

And, with hope, this week’s storm will ease so fans can get a glimpse without getting soaked.

About 70,000 visitors pack the display at Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevards each year. Lucky fans may get to converse with float “imagineers” as well and get their Rose questions answered.

The event this year also includes a Food Fare, featuring some of Los Angeles County’s best food trucks, located on Sierra Madre Blvd. near Gate A in the showcase lot.

Tickets are available online at sharpseating.com or by calling (626) 795-4171. No cash or credit cards will be accepted onsite.

The event was scheduled to open Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., as rain-soaked floats made their way to the display area right after the parade. Here’s the rest of the schedule:

–Friday, Jan. 2: 7 a.m.-9 a.m. reserved for seniors and people with mobility disabilities. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets sales end at 3:30 p.m., last entry at 4 p.m.)

–Saturday, Jan. 3: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (ticket sales end at 2:30 p.m., last entry at 3 p.m.)

Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather — and it’s a two-mile walk.

All bags will be inspected at the gates. Clear bags are recommended.

No skateboards, roller skates, bikes, tricycles or wagons — and fans are warned that strollers may have a tough time on the terrain.

No pets allowed, except for service animals.

Shuttle services are available. Attendees can park at the Pasadena City College or the PCC Extension Lot.
