The accelerated rise of the 2025 Chicago Bears makes me feel good for so many reasons. And at the top of the list of reasons is that this season allowed guys like Patrick and Matt to write an enjoyable Bears team. In the years that passed between playoff appearances, the Bears went 21-47. Being in the trenches following a team with four straight seasons with 10+ losses can be painful. Sure, it builds character. And it teaches you some things. But it also makes seasons like this one feel that much more special. I hope you, dear reader, are enjoying it as much as we are — because this has been a long time coming. Take a minute to stop and think about where you were on this date in 2018. You might not remember because it is possible that you were waking up in a post NYE haze. But I remember it because I woke up to press publish on a post after John Fox’s firing was made officially official. We’ve come a long way since pressing publish on that post. For starters, i can barely make it to midnight on New Year’s Eve these days. I mean, I could if I really wanted to do so. One of my favorite things about writing about the Bears (and the NFL) is that there is always a story. There is always something happening. Whether it is locally or nationally, there is always something cooking. A storyline. A subplot. Subterfuge. Schadenfreude. Something. It reminds me of trying to follow my grandma’s telenovelas as a kid. There is always some sort of drama happening. Better pressure rates and an uptick in sacks, tackles-for-loss, and quarterback hits for Chicago’s defensive line — especially defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. The Bears tossed a healthy chunk of change at Jarrett in the offseason. And while the veteran leadership is appreciated, the numbers (1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 quarterback hit) have been a disappointment. And it helps capture the disconnect between our eyes seeing growth in quarterback Caleb Williams’ game and others who are simply looking at the raw numbers. Patrick is right: Stop Obsessing Over Caleb Williams’ Completion Percentage. It is cliché to manifest health in the new year. But with as many snaps as the Bears have lost due to the injury bug, I see no harm in trying to vibe our way to a healthy 2026. It would be nice to see cornerback Jaylon Johnson see a higher snap share. Getting fellow defensive back Kyler Gordon back after his latest IR stint would be swell, too. A clean bill of health for receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III is also on my 2026 wish list. And, of course, continued health for quarterback Caleb Williams. If you thought I was going to get through this set of BN Bears Bullets without pointing out that President Kevin Warren failed to fulfill his promise of getting shovels in the ground in 2025, then you don’t know me as well as I thought you do. We’ll do some digging into the stadium stuff in a later post. But I gave Warren until 11:59:59 p.m. CT on Dec. 31, 2025 — and he still didn’t cash in on that promise. A new year provides a clean slate. I hope Warren takes advantage of it.
