ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert continues into the late evening hours as accumulating snow and lake snow squalls move through the area. Most spots will pick up a couple inches of snow Wednesday evening, with another inch or two as the squalls develop. These squalls are actually more organized bands of lake effect snow that quickly push inland with a wind shift. Conditions will change very quickly in these squalls, with brief whiteouts and a quick inch or two of snow. Be aware if you’re going out this evening that you may have to take things a bit slower.
The Yellow Alert will dropped with the passage of these squalls, leading to much quieter weather on Thursday. We’ll still see some lake snow showers, mainly near the lakeshore and Wayne County, where a few more inches of snow may be possible. Otherwise it’ll be a cold and brisk day on Thursday with highs near 20 degrees. Friday will also see some flakes, mainly confined to the extreme northern part of our area, and the south shore of Lake Ontario. With that, much of Friday will be snow-free, but still cold.
Another clipper moves in over the weekend, bringing a better chance for more widespread snow showers and light snow Saturday night into Sunday morning. followed by a little more minor lake effect snow Sunday evening into Monday. If you have plans to go to the Bills final regular season home game of the season, and of the old Highmark Stadium era, plan for winter weather. Temperatures will hold in the lower 20s, and we’ll likely see some lake snow showers, especially to start the game.
