New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs has been hit with multiple criminal charges just days before the start of the NFL playoffs.
Diggs, 32, has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery, according to Boston 25 News.
The charges stem from an alleged incident on December 2, the day after Diggs and the Patriots hosted the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, appeared remotely in Dedham District Court in Massachusetts on Tuesday, December 30, seeking to have the police report impounded and the details surrounding the allegations sealed.

DiStefano said Diggs has already made a financial offer to the alleged victim in the case in an effort to resolve the dispute.

The Patriots released a statement about the allegations on Tuesday.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,” the statement read. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

New England has already clinched the AFC East and are still in play for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, which would give them a first-round bye.
The playoffs begin the weekend of January 10. If the Patriots secure the bye, their playoff quest wouldn’t start until the following weekend.
New England hosts the Miami Dolphins in their regular season finale on Sunday, January 4. A Patriots win combined with a Denver Broncos loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday would secure them the No. 1 seed.
Diggs is currently scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, just two days before the AFC Championship game.
In his first year of his three-year, $69 million contract with the Patriots, Diggs is having a stellar season. The wide receiver currently has 970 yards and 82 receptions, both team highs.
It has also been a big year for Diggs away from the football field.
Diggs and his partner, rapper Cardi B, welcomed their first child together, a son, in November.

I have to rehearse for 10 to 12 hours a day for tour. There are so many elements of production that I’m missing for tour. I’m already super stressed out, you know what I’m saying?”
