Starting Jan. 1, Greeley water customers will see their monthly utility bills increase by about $10.23 to cover water, wastewater and stormwater costs, following approval from the Water and Sewer Board this past week.
The Greeley City Council approved the rate increase upon finalizing the 2026 budget in October. The rate increases will help the city continue providing water services to residents while keeping up with rising costs and protecting the community from the impacts of severe weather, according to a city news release.
On average, the water rate will increase by $3.20, the sewer rate by $2 and the stormwater rate by $5.03. Greeley city staff will place increased focus on stormwater in the coming years after seeing the effects of the May 2024 storm, which caused $1.45 million in property damage, and the July 2025 storm, which overwhelmed drainage systems at busy intersections.
These rate increases are lower than the average 2024 rate increase of $15.02. The stormwater rate increase will help maintain current operations and fund upgrades to the city’s infrastructure, improving drainage and reducing flood risk.
With rising utility costs, city leaders are also drawing attention to the city’s financial assistance programs to help offset the impact of these increases. The city offers two programs to assist low-income families with their utility bills: the Low Income & Food Tax program, which provides $100 per qualified person per year, and the Utility Program, which provides a $150 credit toward their water bill.
Residents can apply for both programs with one application at greeleygov.com/Lift-up. Residents with questions about applying can call 970-350-9748 or email Lift.up@greeleygov.com.
