Bears Trade Rumors: Three Names to Watch Because Ryan Poles Isn’t Done Shopping ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The 2026 NFL Trade Deadline is one week away. Things are expected to be hot between now and the Nov. 10 deadline. And you better believe that the Chicago Bears will be right in the thick of it. Because even after completing the Jeffery Simmons trade, it doesn’t sound like Bears General Manager Ryan Poles is satisfied with making just one deal.

More from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who dishes the latest scoop at ESPN:

“Among their needs, they have a need on the edge and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them add some secondary help. Khalil Mack is a name that obviously we’ve discussed. The problem with that is Joe Hortiz, the general manager for the Chargers, has shown no indication that he wants to sell at all. They like how Khalil Mack has helped the young edges and helped the locker room. It’s bad there. They do not want to give up on the season.

The other interesting one is Nahshon Wright, who was with the Bears last year and is with the Jets now. He’s really not playing. Could that be a name to watch just for some depth? I do not believe that Ryan Poles is done.”

One Week ‘Til the NFL Trade Deadline and Insiders Say the Bears Aren’t Done Shopping

We’ve spilled plenty of virtual ink on a potential return of Khalil Mack. But Rapoport mentioning Nahshon Wright as a target is worth highlighting with some more depth.

Wright was a Pro Bowler last season as he set career highs in games played (17), starts (16), interceptions (5), forced fumbles (2), fumble recoveries (3), passes defended (11), total tackles (80), solo tackles (54), tackles-for-loss (3), and just about any defensive stat you could imagine. But not only did Wright fail to parlay a career year into a major multi-year deal, but the one-year contract he signed with the New York Jets also isn’t going well for anyone. Wright has appeared in just three games and hasn’t played a single defensive snap.

Hence, we discussed Wright as a plausible Bears trade target last week after he voiced his frustrations about his situation to a reporter:

Nahshon Wright was a Pro Bowler after a 2025 season in which he set career highs in interceptions, passes defended, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, total tackles, tackles-for-loss, and pretty much every notable category you could think of for a defensive back. No one made more performance-based pay last season than Wright. But because of how free agency unfolded, he couldn’t parlay his tremendous 2025 season into a major payday in the offseason.

I understand that some of his success could be brushed away as fluky. But if the price is right, I’d be willing to see the Bears roll the dice on a player who performed at a high level for them last season. Maybe Chicago’s front office can squeeze a late-round pick swap out of the deal to take a disgruntled player off the Jets’ hands. Again, it wouldn’t be the blockbuster deal Bears fans want. And I’m sorry for that in advance. But reacquiring Wright is sensible and logical. At a minimum, we’ll keep an eye on his situation to see what happens.

Let me be clear. I don’t think trading for Wright will fix what ails the Bears’ secondary. But this team could use depth in the secondary. Adding a player who knows the system and thrived under this coaching staff could make this a win-win situation.

If Wright doesn’t float your boat as a Bears trade target at cornerback, maybe Riq Woolen will.

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-6. Their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is on injured reserve. And the team already shipped off center Cam Jurgens. We discussed the Eagles as a potential trade partner for the Bears, and Woolen as a possible fit. So, reading the Tribune’s Brad Biggs name Woolen as someone to watch ahead of the deadline piqued my interest.

More from Biggs:

There has been speculation the Eagles might trade Woolen, who signed a one-year contract with them this season. The Eagles are in disarray and will be one of the fascinating teams to watch over the next week because GM Howie Roseman is a shrewd operator.

Woolen is a thicker version of Wright — a very tall outside cornerback at 6-foot-4. He had six interceptions as a rookie for the Seahawks in 2022. Since then, there might not be a cornerback in the league who has had a greater range of play from impressive to at times not good. The Seahawks have been pretty sharp in building their team, and Woolen’s role was diminished last season before he wasn’t re-signed.

One thing Woolen would add for the Bears is speed. He can absolutely fly, but he has inconsistent eye discipline and his tackling can be up and down as well.

Woolen is my favorite potential Bears fit among cornerbacks. A Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2022, Woolen has a reputation for being sticky in coverage with speed to burn. That said, his game isn’t perfect. There are boom-or-bust factors, and there are times when it will feel risky to put him on an island. But Woolen would be such an upgrade that I’d be intrigued to hear the asking price.

Because I like it when things come full circle, here is one last clip featuring ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and what he is hearing:

While Rapoport indicates that the Chargers have shown no interest in trading pieces, Fowler’s verbiage is a little softer.

“Leading up to this weekend, teams that checked in with the Chargers were told, ‘Hey, we’re not sellers.’ That L.A. wanted to play this out, sitting at 0-6. Well, now they’re 0-7. So do they sell off parts? At this point, it’s sort of a now-or-never situation. … The Chargers have held off for now, just holding out hope that they could come out of the bye week with more inspiration. That far from happened. They just look uninspired. Teams now do expect them to entertain some potential offers here in L.A.”

This is the most willing the Chargers have sounded when it comes to changing their tune ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline. The next week is going to be fascinating. Buckle up.
