"I'm actually working on a large-scale, full project, simply because my son, Damian, said to me one day, 'Why don't you do [an album called] Son of Olias?' And I thought, 'Okay, yeah.’ I started scribbling and writing a story," Anderson, 81, shared. "I just spent the last four years creating tons of music for it. And whether it will come out, I don't know, but you just do it because it's inspiring to create music."
Anderson first spoke about a sequel to his 1976 solo debut, Olias of Sunhillow, in a 2001 interview with Music Street Journal, where he shared that he’d been working on "a piece of music for a year now.” At the time, he hoped that it would be ready by the next summer.
It wasn’t ready in 2002, but the English singer-songwriter teased the mysterious project several other times over the past two decades, most notably in a 2012 interview with Noise11.com. "It’s not ready yet," he said of the sequel project. "I have all the ingredients, but I haven’t put it in the oven yet."
“I locked myself away and went crazy out of my brain,” Anderson told Noise11.com of the songwriting process. “If you go to do a solo album, you should be by yourself. That’s what I was thinking. I had all the instruments I was going to use, like sitar and drums and things. It came out the other end four months later, and for the first time, I put ‘musician’ on my passport knowing that I was a musician."
Anderson formed Yes in 1978 with bassist Chris Squire. He was part of the classic lineup that included Steve Howe (guitar), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), and Alan White (drums) on songs such “Roundabout,” “I’ve Seen All Good People,” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart.”
