James Nesbitt teases whether his Run Away character can be trusted in Netflix series ...Middle East

News by : (Radio Times) -

With a raft of star-studded shows under his belt now, Run Away is the author's upcoming release with Netflix, that brings the likes of James Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver and more together in its cast.

But can Simon be trusted? It's a question we posed to Nesbitt at the screening for Run Away at BFI Southbank, especially seeing as the series now marks the actor's third appearance in the Coben TV universe.

He told RadioTimes.com exclusively: “You can’t trust anyone in Harlan’s shows, that’s the beauty of it, that’s the intrigue, the excitement of it."

"As Ruth said and honestly, we got on brilliantly – we’d never worked before and that was really important I think for us but also for the show and the relationship between those two characters. You can only be grateful, it’s work, it’s hard work and that’s the privilege of it.

The new eight-parter has been penned by Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic) who has obviously brought the series to life, with a UK spin. Like previous Coben series, the setting has been relocated to the UK, with the cast featuring a raft of familiar faces to bring the gritty story to life.

Speaking about adapting the novel for the screen, Brocklehurst also told RadioTimes.com: “Because it all happens in stages, we all get together and there’s a four person team. We talk a lot about the story to begin with, immersing yourself in the book but also in the story and the new things they’re going to add.

The synopsis for Run Away reads: "Simon (Nesbitt) had the perfect life: loving wife and kids, great job, beautiful home. But then his eldest daughter Paige ran away and everything fell apart. So now when he finds her, vulnerable and strung out on drugs in a city park, he finally has the chance to bring his little girl home.

"But it turns out she’s not alone, and an argument escalates into shocking violence. In the aftermath, Simon loses his daughter all over again, and his search to find her will take him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever."

Run Away will premiere on 1st January 2026 on Netflix – sign up from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media.
