ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Red Alert will continue into the evening for a few more hours of damaging wind gusts, but the worst of the wind should be behind us. We’ll continue to see some gusts pushing 45-55 mph through midnight. A wind shift out of the north will tend to put the focus more on the Lake Ontario communities into the late evening hours, though it’ll remain windy across the entire area. Winds will continue to very slowly ease Monday night into Tuesday, though it’ll remain somewhat windy on Tuesday, as well, with some gusts 45-50 mph as the low continues to pull away.
A Yellow Alert will remain up for Tuesday and Wednesday for a busy wind and more importantly, localized area of lake effect snow. The main focus of the snow on Monday night and Tuesday will be north of Rochester and into Wayne County. Parts of Wayne County may see as much as 3-7″ of snow into Tuesday morning, with some additional snow on Tuesday. Most of the rest of the area see less than an inch or two of snow into Monday night and Tuesday.
Another wind shift will bring a better chance of more widespread snow showers and areas of lake effect snow on Wednesday, including a larger portion of the immediate Rochester area. In all, between Monday night and Thursday morning, parts of Wayne County may see 1-2 feet of snow, with much of the rest of the area seeing much, much less. Though it would be smart to keep the snow brush handy for much of this week.
