Auburn suffered a big loss to the transfer portal on Monday as star receiver Cam Coleman has reportedly decided to play elsewhere in 2026.
Coleman was a 5-star prospect when Hugh Freeze signed him back in the class of 2024. But after 2 successful seasons at Auburn, Coleman has decided to move on.
Last season, Coleman caught 56 passes for 708 yards and 8 touchdowns. Even as Auburn’s quarterback play wavered, Coleman was one of the most productive receivers in the SEC during his sophomore campaign.
For Alex Golesh, failing to keep Coleman in the fold for 2026 is certainly a bitter disappointment. Coleman was poised to be Auburn’s top offensive weapon next fall and one of the very best players in the SEC.
Instead, it’s possible — or even likely — that Auburn will have to face Coleman on the other side at some point next season.
Auburn does have a couple of other potential stars at receiver in Eric Singleton Jr. and Malcolm Simmons. Both players are eligible to return in 2026. However, it’s unclear if the Tigers will be able to bring either back next season.
Soon after Coleman’s announcement was made, Auburn fans took to social media to voice their frustrations:
Alex Golesh is starting to piss a lot of people off
— Auburn Anytime (@Auburnanytime) December 29, 2025Alex Golesh comes in with “$30 million to spend on a roster” and immediately loses the entire defense and your only offensive star. What a disaster man t.co/raBzjyoS3g
— Yella Fella (@yellafella6969) December 29, 2025Cam Coleman hopping in the transfer portal is absolutely devastating for Auburn
— Barrett Sallee (@BarrettSallee) December 29, 2025I don't blame Cam Coleman for looking at the portal. The Wide Choice offense that Golesh runs (& Heupel runs at Tennessee) can be a good college offense, but it's not the one you want to be taking questions about during the NFL Draft process. pic.twitter.com/kazm4thUXY
— Jon Tweets Sports (@jontweetssports) December 29, 2025Cam Coleman entering the Transfer Portal OFFICIALLY changes my outlook on Alex Golesh.
— Brian Smith (@fbscout_florida) December 29, 2025Cam Coleman would double his production under Golesh. He should have hit the portal last year or never went to Auburn in the first place with what they had at quarterback. t.co/LcGBdFs4E1
— Landon Raby (@lambo_raby10) December 29, 2025Fire Golesh already for not keeping Cam Coleman. I may not step foot in JHS next year
— AuBARN (@TheRealRamDaddy) December 29, 2025Yes, it’s horrible to lose Cam Coleman, but I still feel more confident in Golesh than I did in the two predecessors who created this mess.
— John Carvalho (@John_P_Carvalho) December 29, 2025“We have 30 million in NIL to give to our football players! We will for sure be able to keep our star player Cam Coleman!”Alex Golesh: pic.twitter.com/0oHzGB6tav
