Severe storms pummeled part of Livingston County in central Illinois on Sunday afternoon, damaging a school and multiple homes.
Significant damage was reported at Prairie Central Junior High in Forrest, where a section of the roof was torn off. The school district’s superintendent said in a Facebook post most of the damage was contained to the gymnasium — and it appeared classrooms weren’t damaged.
In nearby Pontiac, authorities urged residents to avoid the Motorola Subdivision after multiple homes and an apartment building were damaged.
“The subdivision experienced high winds causing structural damage to multiple single family dwellings and an apartment complex,” the city of Pontiac said in a Facebook post.
As of 9 p.m., more than 80 utility customers in the area were without power, according to ComEd’s outage map. Police and emergency crews were expected to remain at the scene overnight.
Damage was reported elsewhere in the region, including in the Decatur area, where two tornadoes touched down. Roofs were torn off multiple homes, several trees were uprooted and debris was strewn in front yards.
No injuries were reported.
