The unparalleled scenery and splendor of the Rose Bowl has captivated college football fans for decades, and even those employed in the sport aren’t immune to the Arroyo Seco’s unique charms.
That includes Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, who will be experiencing his first Rose Bowl when the Crimson Tide take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Jan. 1 in Pasadena (4 pm ET, ESPN).
“This would be a bucket list opportunity for me,” Wommack said Sunday during a news conference in Tuscaloosa before Alabama travels to Pasadena. “I’ve been, between my dad’s career and my playing career and my coaching career, a part of the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Peach. This will be my 26th bowl game I have been a part of, but I’ve never been a part of a Rose Bowl.
“This is an awesome opportunity, one that I will take a moment at some point to appreciate and enjoy before I lock back into the work and the task at hand. I would imagine Rose Bowls are much more memorable when you win the game, so we will make sure we do that. But it is awesome. Our sport is built upon moments and bowl games like the Rose Bowl.”
