ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A new bill will require social media platforms to display warning labels to young users.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the bill Friday. It requires the labels to warn kids and teens of the potential dangerous impact some features can have on young users mental health.
Those features include auto play of videos and infinite scrolling. The bill requires the warning to show when the feature first appears, and again periodically after that.
In a press release, Hochul says this bill is a way to combat mental health risks of using harmful features on social media.
“With the amount of information that can be shared online, it is essential that we prioritize mental health and take the steps necessary to ensure that people are aware of any potential risks,” said Hochul in the press release.
