Where is Santa Claus? NORAD tracks when he’ll fly over San Diego County ...Middle East

News by : (Times of San Diego) -

The North American Aerospace Defense Command is once again keeping watch on Santa Claus and the agency said not even an atmospheric river is expected to derail his Christmas Eve journey.

Santa left the North Pole as planned Wednesday morning, officially activating NORAD’s live tracker at www.noradsanta.org.

NORAD experts said Santa typically reaches homes between 9 p.m. and midnight local time on Christmas Eve, putting his San Diego County flyover within that window, but only after children are asleep.

This marks the 70th consecutive year NORAD, based at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado, has provided simulated tracking of Santa’s global journey. The tradition began in 1955 after a child mistakenly dialed an aerospace command number and reached a colonel who reassured her that Santa would make it safely through the night.

For real-time updates, the public can also call NORAD’s hotline at 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) through early Christmas morning.

The aerospace agency isn’t the only source tracking Santa’s journey, Google will also be monitoring his progress.
