Arizona controlled the meet from start to finish at home against the Aggies of Texas A&M, opening up competition with 11 day one wins, complemented by 28 top three finishes, later adding another eight wins and 33 top three placings on day two to earn a women’s victory (179-135) and a men’s win (188.50-124.50).

Women’s Recap

The Wildcat women kicked off the scoring on day one with a win in the 400 medley relay; Kayman Neal (53.86), Eleni Gewalt (58.95), Maryam Sheikhalizadehkhangh (52.64), and Julia Wozniak (47.66) combined for a meet-opening win in 3:33.11.

Arizona junior Ava Sutphin surged to a near 10-second win in the 1650 free, touching in 16:45.27.

Arizona senior Eleni Gewalt was the lone sub-minute 100 breaststroker in 59.41, over a second faster than the field.

Senior Julia Wozniak held off Wildcat teammate Riley Botton (48.80) to take the win in the 100 free, finishing in 48.72. Wozniak and Botton were the only sub-49 swimmers in the field. Botton later went on to win the 50 free, touching in 22.13, with Wozniak finishing 2nd in 22.34.

Arizona’s 200 free relay touched just .16 seconds ahead of Texas A&M in 1:29.44.

Senior Wildcat Malia Rausch picked up another distance free win for Arizona, this time in the 500 free, taking the win in 4:50.30, just four hundredths ahead of sophomore teammate Elise Clift in 4:50.34.

Arizona sophomore Kayman Neal was untouchable in the 200 backstroke, touching over four seconds ahead of the field in 1:53.60.

The Wildcats closed out the meet with a major 400 free relay win, touching more than two seconds ahead of the Aggies (3:17.98) in 3:15.80.

Texas A&M 5th-year Kaitlyn Owens was first to the wall in the 100 back in 53.09, touching .16 seconds ahead of Lila Lillie’s 53.25

Junior Ava Whitaker picked up the 200 fly win for the Aggies in 1:57.05, nearly two seconds ahead of her teammate Katie Walker (1:58.99). She also would later win the 100 fly later in the meet in 52.87, where she finished as the only competitor under 54 seconds.

Texas A&M finished 1-2 in the women’s 200 IM; sophomore Hannah O’Leary led the way in 2:00.39, junior Giulia Goerigk was just behind in 2:01.09. O’Leary would complete the IM sweep with a win in the 400 IM, touching the wall first in 4:17.14.

The Aggies did emerge victorious in the women’s 200 medley relay, just eight hundredths of a second ahead of Arizona in 1:36.80.

Sophomore Ella Smoker powered home in the 200 breast to nab the win in 2:12.87 for Texas A&M ahead of Arizona’s Hannah O’Leary in 2:13.18.

Ella McQuinn was unchallenged in the 200 free, leading from start to finish and clocking 1:46.17, adding another win for the Aggie women.

Men’s Recap

Arizona’s quartet of Duncan Henderson, Tavner Wisdom, Haakon Naughton, and Ralph Daleiden notched the opening men’s event win in the 400 medley relay, three seconds ahead of Texas A&M in 3:05.49.

Freshman Aaron Gordon led the way for the Wildcats in the 100 back, finishing as the fastest of three Wildcats under 48 seconds in 47.55. His teammates Ryan Hardy and Will Meyers tied for 2nd in 47.69.

Wisdom took the win in a tight battle over Logan Brown of Texas A&M, taking the win by just .13, clocking 53.28.

Wildcats’ senior Haakon Naughton took the men’s 200 fly comfortably, touching over 1.2 seconds ahead of the field in 1:42.67. Naughton later doubled up with a win in the 100 fly, clocking 45.21, nearly a second and a half faster than teammate Jakey Hutchinson (46.69).

The Wildcat men finished 1-2-3 in the men’s 100 free, with Ralph Daleiden (42.57), Orion Henderson (42.79), and Jakey Hutchinson (43.05) sweeping the event for Arizona.

Arizona’s men’s 200 free relay followed the lead of their women’s team counterparts, touching 1st in 1:17.66. The ‘B’ relay finished 2nd for Arizona in 1:18.95.

The Wildcats’ 200 medley relay left no doubt as they rolled to a near two-second win over Texas A&M in 1:24.60.

Orion Henderson led the way for Arizona in the 200 free, earning a big win in 1:34.49, over 1.3 seconds better than runner-up Danill Pancerevas in 1:35.80.

Arizona wrapped up the meet with a men’s 400 free relay win, over two seconds ahead of the Aggies in 2:51.56.

The men’s 1650 was decided by a margin of victory more commonly found in the 50 free; Texas A&M Freshman Bucky Gettys led a 1-2 finish for the Aggies, narrowly out-touching his teammate Batuhan Filiz (15:19.26) by just eight hundredths in 15:19.18. Gettys later in the meet added another win in the 500 free, over two seconds ahead of the field in 4:21.87.

5th-year Aggie Munzy Kabbara turned in the only sub-1:46 time in the men’s 200 IM in 1:45.29. His teammates Danill Pancerevas (1:46.00) and Logan Brown (1:48.40) finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Kabbara also collected the 200 back win in 1:43.39, two seconds faster than anybody else in the event. He would earn one more event win with his performance in the 400 IM, swimming the only sub-3:50 time in 3:48.12.

Texas A&M sophomore Ben Sytsma won the men’s 50 free by just over half a second ahead of the rest of the field in 19.45.

Logan Brown earned a win of his own in 1:54.84, over two seconds faster than runner-up finisher Bryan Wong of Arizona (1:56.87).
