According to the Associated Press, the NFL team will relocate across state lines to a brand new stadium in Kansas City, Kansas. The stadium is expected to be ready by the 2031 season.
The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium on the Missouri side of Kansas City since 1972. The team's lease with Jackson County, Missouri is set to expire at the end of the 2031 NFL season — right around the time the new stadium is expected to open.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt — who attended the lawmaking session with team president Mark Donovan and other officials — reflected on the deal in a statement shared Monday.
Kansas Gov.Laura Kelly was also expected to share details of the incentive deal in an announcement at 3 p.m. local time, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal. Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas is also expected to address the media later Monday.
