Montez Sweat Earned PFF’s Best Initial Grade From Bears Week 16 Win vs. Packers ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

On a day where I cannot stop watching that game-winning Caleb Williams overtime touchdown throw to DJ Moore, I found my eyes bugging out of my head when I saw that Montez Sweat had the best initial grade from Pro Football Focus after the Chicago Bears’ 22-16 victory against the Green Bay Packers.

And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.

PFF player grades aren’t the be-all, end-all. But they do serve a purpose in helping contextualize what we just saw. In this case, this particular PFF grade’s purpose was to serve up a reminder that Chicago’s defense had some key moments — and that Montez Sweat was at the heart of it with his effort on Saturday.

Bears Player Grades: Montez Sweat and Other Top Performers

Another game day, another stat sheet stuffing performance by Montez Sweat. The 29-year-old defensive end collected 1 sack, 1 tackle-for-loss, 1 quarterback hit, 2 solo tackles, and 5 total tackles en route to earning an 88.9 initial grade from Pro Football Focus. He also did this:

Chicago’s defense didn’t get much pressure on Green Bay quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis, generating just five quarterback hits and two sacks, but it is fitting that Sweat was the one doing the damage. After an injury-riddled 2024 season, seeing Sweat bounce back with a strong 2025 has made him one of the unsung heroes of this magical campaign.

A look at Sweat’s 2025 numbers after 16 weeks of Bears football:

9.5 sacks 16 quarterback hits 13 tackles-for-loss 3 forced fumbles

I found myself diving into Montez Sweat’s PFF profile and it felt worth sharing that he is also excelling in some of the advanced metrics. For instance, his four batted passes are the third-most in the league. His 27 stops check in at 11th-most. That’s pretty neat. I’m not sure if Sweat will make the Pro Bowl this season, but he is making a strong case for it with his play this season.

Some other notable Bears player grades from the initial release by Pro Football Focus:

78.0: Kyle Monangai, running back 75.6: Jahdae Walker, wide receiver 75.1: Jonah Jackson, right guard 73.8: DJ Moore, wide receiver 72.9: Gervon Dexter Sr., defensive tackle 72.9: Nick McCloud, cornerback Bears wide receiver DJ Moore. | Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images

We’ll get into grades for quarterback Caleb Williams later today. But for now, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some things that might otherwise fly under the radar. For instance, two of the Bears’ top-graded offensive players are rookies Kyle Monangai (a seventh-round pick) and Jahdae Walker (an undrafted free-agent signing). Good teams find ways to get contributions from all over the roster and on each day of the NFL Draft. It is also encouraging to see right guard Jonah Jackson as a fixture as a highly graded player.

And then there is Nick McCloud, who is coming off winning a nice award for his work in the community:

Bears cornerback Nick McCloud is the Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP after hosting a special holiday event for 30 fathers of color and their young children. He supplied essential items, gift cards, winter coats, a catered meal and also held an impactful panel discussion with his own…

McCloud became the second Bears player to win the NFLPA Community Award this season, joining teammate Caleb Williams, who won it in November in Week 11.
