But at least 1 Heisman voter, ESPN’s Rece Davis, now regrets his decision to cast a vote for Pavia after the quarterback’s actions after last Saturday’s vote was announced and Pavia dropped an explicit message on his social media accounts reacting to the decision.
“I regretted the vote because after Pavia’s behavior in the aftermath, I was like ‘Man, I am glad he didn’t win,’” Davis said. “That’s not the way you should feel about a player that is as great as a player that Pavia is on the field. I am delighted that (Indiana quarterback Fernando) Mendoza won, because he will represent the Heisman in the way I think it should be represented.”
Davis went on to say that he understands the Vanderbilt quarterback’s disappointment in finishing second in the Heisman voting to Mendoza, but that learning from the disappointment is a part of life.
“I get it. Gotta suck it up sometimes. Every now and then in life, you gottta wear a fastball in the ribs. Too bad. And he couldn’t do it,” Davis said. “It made me regret the fact that I had him atop my Heisman ballot. The right guy won. And I’m glad he won.”
