Gabi Brito, a 48.0 100 freestyler at 15 years old, cleared her schedule to have her best go at the event tonight.
The Santa Monica based rising star scratched the 200 back, in which she placed 20th this morning, to focus on the 100 free that follows the event.
Brito has had a stellar meet, and she seems primed to reach new territory in the 100 tonight. She already won the 50 free in 22.09, the 100 back in 51.78, the 200 IM in 1:55.99, and the 100 fly in 51.55. All victories, save the 200 IM, were also best times. The Beach Cities athlete also led off her 800 free relay in a new beset time of 1:46.70, showing her endurance is intact.
She produced a 48.86 this morning to land the #2 seed in finals, three tenths behind Adalynn Biegler, who is one year her senior.
Brito was the only girl in the entire session to scratch an event. She was joined by four boys’ 100 freestylers – Yuri Plaksin, Tyler Porter, Yury Kusmenko, and Grant Kellis. Here’s the full scratch report:
