A new report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that Rome Odunze could be available to play in the Chicago Bears’ Week 15 game against the Cleveland Browns. Seeing this pop up in my notifications definitely made my head turn:

Rome Odunze sat out the Bears’ Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers because of a foot injury that kept him from practicing in the days leading up to that game. Chicago’s football team certainly missed Odunze’s presence, particularly in the first half when the offense sputtered out of the gate. Odunze has a knack for being an early go-to target for quarterback Caleb Williams as he tries to gain a rhythm early in games. If Odunze returns for Week 15, it would be a welcome sight — especially if it means he is receiving 100 percent medical clearance.

But with that being said being “optimistic” about Rome Odunze’s status and “certain” are two very different ideas. Just because the Bears are reportedly optimistic about Odunze’s chances of playing on Saturday morning does not mean they will feel the same way when the list of inactives is due on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. CT. I imagine the team will put Odunze through a light workout at Soldier Field before ultimately making a decision on his playing status for the Sunday showdown against Cleveland.

I am pretty torn about what the Bears should do here. On the one hand, a healthy Rome Odunze should play. But on the other hand, I am not sure how healthy Odunze is when you consider he was listed as a limited participant in each of Chicago’s three practices this week. Had Odunze put together at least one (1) full participation practice session, I’d feel better about the idea of playing him on Sunday against the Browns. But he didn’t. So my gut feeling is to let him rest another week and have him ready to go against the Packers on Saturday.
