The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four players with immediate effect after serious allegations of corrupt practices surfaced during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. The players, namely, Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri, are accused of attempting to influence members of the Assam squad that took part in the tournament held in Lucknow between November 26 and December 8.
In a statement issued on Friday, ACA secretary Sanatan Das confirmed that an FIR has been lodged with the Crime Branch in Guwahati. He added that the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the BCCI has already conducted a preliminary enquiry into the matter. According to the ACA, there is prima facie evidence suggesting the involvement of the four players in activities that threaten the integrity of the game.
Among those suspended, Abhishek Thakuri is the most notable name, having featured in two Ranji Trophy matches for Assam earlier this season. The others have also represented the state at different levels in domestic cricket.
ACA clamps down as investigation begins
The ACA has made it clear that the suspension will remain in place until the investigation is completed or until further orders are passed. During this period, the four players are barred from taking part in any state-level tournaments organised by the ACA, its district units or affiliated clubs. They are also prohibited from being involved in any cricket-related activity, including roles such as coach, umpire or match official.
“All district associations have been directed to ensure strict compliance with this order,” Das said, adding that clubs and academies under their jurisdiction have also been informed. The ACA has reiterated that it is fully cooperating with the police and the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
