Todd Bowles’ Viral Postgame Rant, Monangai and Swift Stats, NFL Announcer Rankings, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Children aren’t in my future, but it doesn’t stop me from getting excited about my friends when they have kids of their own. So, as you might imagine, I had a big smile on my face this morning when I saw news that one of my buds shared news of their first child’s berth. Now, let’s get that kiddo a Bears win to celebrate on Sunday.

Before we dive into Chicago Bears-focused stuff, you’ve gotta see Todd Bowles’ viral post-game rant:

#Bucs HC Todd Bowles talking about his players:"The coaches have done everything they can do. This is a player-driven team in the last four or five weeks. You've got to execute, and they've got to hold each other accountable. … Until they start holding each other accountable… t.co/WSwjH7SrOG pic.twitter.com/5B60lxDfpd

As Patrick pointed out on Thursday, that Bucs-Falcons game was a big one in terms of improtance regarding the playoff picture. That Tampa Bay lost a home game against Atlanta should put a team like the Bears on upset alert. At a minimum, it should serve as a reminder that oany NFL team (yes, even the ones with nothing to play for beyond NFL Draft positioning) can beat another on any given game day. That sentiment has always been true, but it feels more accurate this year than in other recent seasons. You can read an updated look at the Bears’ playoff odds here. I’m not sure what needs to happen in order for the Bears and Panthers to meet in a playoff game. But I would 100 percent be here for those teams matching up in the postseason three years afer their monumental trade. Get on it, NFL script-writers! Bears rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III is celebrating a birthday today. It feels like a good weekend to give him the gift of an opportunity to score a touchdown. Burden found paydirt in Week 3, but hasn’t been in the end zone since. For what it’s worth, he feels due for a tuddy. The Mizzou product is averaging 5.5 targets per game in his last four contests and has a total of 17 touches in those games. His snapshare continues to see increases. And with fellow wideout Rome Odunze working his way back from a foot injury, it would make sense to get him the ball more. Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III (10) stiff-arms Green Bay Packers cornerback Carrington Valentine (24) on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Packers won the game, 28-21. Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin Speaking of Bears rookies, these are the numbers running back Kyle Monangai has put up in his last 8 games: 113 carries, 567 rushing yards, 5 touchdowns; 7 catches, 49 yards. The ground game numbers are particularly impressive, especially that 5.0 yards per carry average. Extrapolate the stats from Monangai’s last eight games over a full 17-game season, and they look like this: 240 carries, 1,204 rushing yards, 10 touchdowns. I’d love to sign up for a full season of this, please. Where can I do so? Not to be left out of the discussion, these are the numbers for D’Andre Swift in his last 7 games in the same time span (remember, Swift missed the Bengals game with an injury): 103 carries, 542 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns; 13 receptions, 104 receiving yards. On the ground, that comes out to a 17-game pace of 250 carries, 1,316 rushing yards, and 7 touchdowns. That ground-and-pound game Chicago has going right now looks tough to stop. And I hope the trend continues this weekend against the Browns. Accoutnability is the biggest difference between this coaching staff and the one that came before it:

Dennis Allen said he puts the touchdown right before halftime against the Packers on him.The Bears' defensive coordinator mentioned he needs to coach that coverage better. pic.twitter.com/5zAoffR4KX

— Nicholas Moreano (@NicholasMoreano) December 11, 2025 Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen on Jaylon Johnson (via Bear Report’s Zack Pearson): “I think he’s getting closer and closer each week.” Now, you might be wondering what Chicago’s DC means by that since Jaylon is back out there and playing. This feels like a good time to point out that Johnson isn’t back working a full snap load just yet. He was at 61 percent against the Eagles in Week 13 and 66 percent against the Packers in Week 14. Gradually working a player back into the lineup is a sensible path — especially when you consider that Jaylon might’ve been rushed back into the lineup earlier in the season. These guys want to play. And they definitely want to suit up for the biggest games of the year. But the coaches (and medical staff) need to keep ’em honest. The grades are in for Awful Announcing’s 2025 local NFL radio announcer rankings. That Bears tandem of Jeff Joniak and Tom Thayer ranked in the top-10, garnering an “A” grade from 34.2 percent of the votes. Way to go, guys! On the one hand, I hate that the Packers broadcast booth earned a top grade because I don’t like that Green Bay has nice things. But on the other hand, Wayne Larrivee was a major part of my upbringing as a Chicago sports fan. He had iconic calls during the Bulls’ title run, had some memorable moments doing Cubs games on WGN-TV, and was the voice of the Bears during my formative years as a fan. In other words, you won’t see me saying anything bad about Wayne here. More broadcast nuggets: FOX is sending the team of Kevin Kugler, Daryl “Moose” Johnston, and Allison Williams to do the Bears-Browns game. That is a quality crew.

I think the Cubs meeting with Pete Alonso before he signed with the O's is interesting. Fun for discussing. But when you really think it through, I don't know how meaningful it actually ever was. t.co/tCqjm4p0ij
