Breaststroke and freestyle specialist Monica DiGaetani has verbally committed to continue her academic and swimming career at the Colorado School of Mines, a division II school, beginning in the fall of 2026. DiGaetani is a senior at Samuel W. Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and trains with the Sporting Jax Aquatic Club.
“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic career at Colorado School of Mines! I am grateful for my coaches, friends, and family who have been with me every step of the way. I want to thank the coaching staff at Mines for this amazing opportunity. And a special thanks to my parents who have been my biggest cheerleaders and role models. Go Orediggers! #helluvaengineer ”
DiGaetani clocked her fastest 200 free time of 1:53.43 at the 2023 FHSAA 1A Region 1 Championship (SCY) in October, where she placed 5th in the event and also took 3rd in the 100 free (52.89).
A couple of weeks later, at the 2023 FL FAST High School Time Trials (SCY), she posted her best 100 free (52.05) and swam a 1:55.12 in the 200 free. That same season, at the 2023 FHSAA State Championships (SCY), she recorded her fastest 50 free (24.33) leading off Samuel W. Wolfson’s 200 free relay, which finished 8th.
In May 2025, DiGaetani posted several PBs at the Florida Senior Championship (SCY), hitting lifetime bests in the prelims of the 100 breast (1:06.57), 200 breast (2:23.50), 200 IM (2:11.58), and 400 IM (4:42.25). She also made finals in both breast events, placing 22nd in the 200 (2:24.09) and 24th in the 100 (1:06.71).
Last month, at the 2025 FHSAA 2A State Championships, she finaled in both of her free events, taking 7th in the 200 free (1:54.65) and 8th in the 100 free (53.46).

DiGaetani has the potential to make an impact for Mines in both free and breast events. Her 100 free and 200 breast times would have qualified for the ‘A’ final at last season’s conference championships.
DiGaetani will join Lizzie Landuyt, Aly Cutforth, Kaitlyn Latendresse, and Zoe McGee on campus in 2026. Cutforth also shows promise in the 100 free with her 52.41.
