Mecklenburg Swim Association — 3:33.88 TAC Titans — 3:34.43 **New 15-16 NAG Record SwimMac Carolina — 3:36.98

With their runner-up finish in the women’s 400 medley relay, the TAC Titans team of Reina Liu, Carolin He, Nikki Nixon, and Sloane Whelehan downed the girls’ 15-16 National Age Group record in the event, previously held by Virginia Gators at the 2017 Dolphin ISCA Junior National Championship Cup in 3:36.53, with their final time of 3:34.53.

That relay of the Virginia Gators comprised of 20-time NCAA All-American Olivia Bray (Texas), three-time ACC Champion Emma Muzzy (NC State), Whittney Hamilton (Tennessee), and Caroline Kulp (Virginia).

Liu led off in 52.04, just slower than the previous NAG record’s opening leg from Bray in 52.02. The 2017 relay also held the advantage through the backstroke leg as well, with Muzzy out splitting He by just over three-tenths (1:01.91 to 1:02.25).

The major disparities come in the back half of the race; Nixon’s fly leg of 51.43 outpaced Hamilton’s in 2017, 51.43 to 53.03, a 1.6-second difference on that leg alone.

Wheelan’s anchor leg of 48.71 was nearly a full second faster than Kulp’s 2017 relay anchor of 49.57.

At this meet, TAC Titans finished just over half a second (.55) from Mecklenburg Swim Association, who went on to win the event.

The same 2017 quartet of Muzzy, Kulp, Bray, and Hamilton still holds the 15-16 NAG 200 medley relay record.
