Madalyn Petty highlights the scratches for this morning’s prelims session at the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships – West in Austin Texas. There will be three boys’ and three girls’ events this morning: the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free.
Petty was the #5 seed in the women’s 500 free this morning, entered with a time of 4:45.05. The 16-year-old from Tyler Rose Aquatics has three further entries this week, but scratched out of the 1000 free yesterday afternoon and nay not be taking to the pool in Austin.
The other top scratch is #24 Jordan Ragland in the men’s 200 IM, as he prioritises the 50 free where he is the #4 seed. Ragland has been on a frightening improvement curve, dropping nearly two seconds last season in the 50 free to go 19.61, and could well be a medal favorite tonight.
He is entered in the 100 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 200 breast later this week, with top-ten seeds in the 100 back (#5) and 100 free (#8). He was a ‘B’ finalist in the 50 free and ‘C’ finalist in the 100 free last year, so to be seeded for three ‘A’ finals is a big showing from the Cal Commit.
No other top-24 seeds have scratched this morning.
