New York, Dec. 10 (SANA) Qatar has pledged $1 million to support the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) in 2026, the country’s UN envoy announced Wednesday.

Alya Ahmed bin Saif, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, made the announcement at the high-level pledging conference in New York. “Based on our belief in CERF’s vital role in responding to urgent humanitarian needs and our longstanding partnership with the United Nations, the State of Qatar is pleased to pledge $1 million to support CERF for 2026,” she said.

Bin Saif highlighted CERF’s track record in delivering life-saving aid during complex crises, from conflict zones to climate-related emergencies, providing food, shelter, medical care, and essential services when rapid intervention can mean the difference between life and death.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised CERF as “the world’s global lifeline in emergencies,” noting that the fund has provided nearly $10 billion in aid to more than 100 countries since 2006. Guterres called CERF “fast, flexible, and fair,” crediting its partnerships with over 20 UN agencies and hundreds of global partners for reaching tens of millions of people each year
