The college football world took to social media to react to Notre Dame‘s shocking decision to decline any invitation to a bowl game on Sunday in the wake of its snub from the College Football Playoff.
According to a report by On3’s Brett McMurphy on Sunday afternoon, Notre Dame was invited to play BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 27 but declined that invitation. That report came minutes after the news that Notre Dame had decided to sit out the postseason and not play in a bowl game after not being selected to the CFP.

— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) December 7, 2025Meanwhile, college football fans and media had their own takes on Notre Dame’s decision to not go to any bowl game following what the Fighting Irish perceived as a massive Playoff snub. Notre Dame lost its first 2 games of the season by a combined 4 points to Playoff teams Texas A&M and Miami, which got in on Sunday over the Irish. But Notre Dame responded by winning its next 10 games, all by double figures, to finish 10-2.
Still, it wasn’t good enough for Marcus Freeman’s team, which was hurt by the head-to-head factor against the Hurricanes and didn’t get the benefit of the doubt when compared with a 3-loss Alabama team. Rather than play in a bowl game in the aftermath of not getting in the Playoff, Notre Dame decided to leave well enough alone and skip the postseason.
Here is just a sampling of the reaction from fans and media:
Arrogance and narcissism are never in short supply in college football. Basically, this is Notre Dame having a hissy fit over not being selected for the CFP. t.co/9BZA8sW3Nr

— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) December 7, 2025Notre Dame will not participate in the postseason after being snubbed for the CFP. Candidly, I visited South Bend on Friday for a separate story and could sense the tension around the CFP selection. There wasn't going to be a lot of enthusiasm for anything else. t.co/V5flPjDVKZ

— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) December 7, 2025I don’t blame Notre Dame one bit for deciding not to play in a Bowl Game when they should have been playing for a chance to win the National Championship in the College Football Playoff. pic.twitter.com/TgB0kAn85r
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) December 7, 2025I understand Notre Dame being upset about the playoff but to throw a pity party and not play in a bowl game is quite a new precedent for a 10-2 football team
