Two offensive linemen from Colorado, a cornerback from Cherry Creek, a linebacker from Erie and a wide receiver from Arvada were among the players to join the University of Northern Colorado football program Wednesday with the opening of college football’s early-signing period.

As of late-afternoon Wednesday, UNC announced the signing of six players, with five from Colorado. This story will be updated with other signees through Friday, the end of the three-day early signing period. Since the end of the season Nov. 22, UNC has had several players announce their intent to leave the program when the NCAA transfer portal opens next month.

The Bears added offensive linemen Houston Boyce from Skyline High School in Longmont and Asher Gardzelewski from Green Mountain High School in Lakewood; linebacker Lincoln Hageman from Erie; cornerback Jayden Spencer from Cherry Creek and wide receiver Noah Meurer from Arvada West High School.

Asher Bancroft, an offensive lineman from southern California also signed with UNC, which had its best season in the era of third-year head coach Ed Lamb this fall. The Bears finished the season 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big Sky Conference. The four wins are the most at UNC since 2016.

The three-day early-signing window opened Wednesday for high school football recruits at Division I schools. Wednesday was also the first day for Division I and Division II players to sign with programs as mid-year junior college transfers. The final signing date for those athletes varies by school, according to the NCSA college recruiting platform.

National signing day, which comes Feb. 4, 2026, is the bigger event on the college football recruiting calendar. The day starts the regular-signing period into the spring for Division I and Division II players.

Boyce is 6-foot-8 and 310 pounds with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet, according to his bio on the social media platform X. He played on the offensive and defensive lines for Skyline (4-7 overall and 3-2 in 4A North 2). In a Nov. 24 post on X, Boyce said he received an offer from UNC after speaking with UNC offensive line coach and run game coordinator Nick Nissen.

Gardzelewski is listed as 6-5, 300 pounds on his X page. He announced his commitment to UNC in a September post.

Hageman says he’s 6-3 and 200 pounds with a time of 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard dash on his X page. He committed to the Bears in late October, also according to X.

Hageman led Erie in tackles (123, 73 solo-50 assisted) and tackles per game (10.3). He had 17 tackles for loss of yards. He was the Tigers’ third leading receiver on offense with 12 catches for 258 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games.

Bancroft will be an early enrollee for the Bears when he joins the program in January, according to his X page. He played at Chaparral High School in Temecula, which is between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Spencer is listed as 6-feet, 170 pounds with a 4.41 time in the 40 on his X page. He had 45 total tackles (25 solo, 20 assisted) in nine games this season for Cherry Creek, according to MaxPreps. He has 69 tackles in 22 varsity over three varsity seasons.

Cherry Creek is 13-0 this season and will meet Ralston Valley (13-0) for the Class 5A state title at 5 p.m. Saturday at Colorado State’s Canvas Stadium.

Meurer’s signing came in late-afternoon Wednesday on the UNC football X page. Meurer’s X page says he’s 6-feet, 180 pounds who can bench press 265 pounds, squat 500 pounds and deadlift 375 pounds. He committed to the Bears in October, also according to his X page.

Meurer was the Wildcats’ leading receiver this fall with 69 catches for 1,109 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged 16.1 yards per catch and 92.4 yards per game.

In 34 games over three varsity seasons, Meurer had 159 receptions for 2,485 yards and 25 touchdowns.
