With the calendar year coming to a close, World Para Swimming is looking ahead to 2026, recently announcing the full schedule for the 2026 World Series. Next year’s series features nine stops across four continents.
The action gets underway in February with the Gold Coast playing host to the first stop. It’s a significant moment for the growth of the World Series; Melbourne has hosted several times, but this is the Gold Coast’s first-time hosting, marking another year with the Series heading to at least one new city.
Hosting the Series on the Gold Coast and at the historic Gold Coast Aquatic Center also means the athletes will race in an outdoor venue, a valuable opportunity with the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games quickly approaching. While the Olympic swimmers are racing in SoFi stadium, the Paralympians will compete outdoors at a temporary venue in Long Beach, Calif., meaning it’s important for them to take advantage of available outdoor racing opportunities in the next two years.
Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate also pointed out this is a chance to highlight para swimmers as the country looks past Los Angeles 2028 to the Brisbane 2032 Games, saying “hosting these championships not only highlights the incredible sporting prowess of the world’s best Para athletes but equally, helps shine a light on the city’s sports facilities as we count down to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.”
After the Gold Coast meet, the Series moves to Europe for the next four stops, with meets in Lignano, Barcelona, Paris, and Berlin. Berlin is a familiar setting for the World Series and has seen numerous world records go down. Next year, the Berlin meet will get a new look, and “feature a brand-new setup in 2026, dedicated solely to the World Series format.”
The back half of the series will see para swimmers suit up in Fuji, Guadalajara, Lima, and Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi was originally set to debut as a World Series stop this year, but the meet was cancelled. Now, it’s set to be the second debut city on the 2026 calendar.
Craig Nicholson, Head of World Para Swimming, said in a statement “the World Series 2026 calendar shows the continued growth of Para swimming around the world. We are thrilled to see familiar venues returning and excited to bring our competition to new locations such as Abu Dhabi. Each host city plays a vital role in creating opportunities for athletes and inspiring the next generation of swimmers.”
The Para World Swimming Series uses a multi-class events scoring system. All athletes’ results at each stop of the Para Swimming World Series are fed into the standardized World Para Swimming points system, which determines a swimmer’s score for the series—similar to the AQUA Points calculator used on the World Aquatics World Cup.

Points are added up across the competitions, with a female and male athlete crowned as the Overall Series Winner at the conclusion of the series.
