Blackhawks 3, Golden Knights 4 (SO) — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Unfortunately, the Blackhawks started the game with a similar script to Sunday afternoon; they allowed a goal just 27 seconds in to the game. A pass attempt redirected off Wyatt Kaiser‘s skate and into the net. This time, however, the Blackhawks tied the game just 56 seconds later. After the first two shots of the game went in — nothing else followed. Vegas went 7:43 to close out the first period without a shot on net.

A terrible decision by Vegas goaltender Carter Hart to try to play a puck turned into a golden scoring chance that wasn’t missed by Tyler Bertuzzi. For a few minutes it felt like a “puck don’t lie” moment… until Ben Hutton banked in Vegas’ second goal off Matt Grzelcyk. Both of Vegas’ goals were off a Blackhawks’ defenseman. The game was tied at two after 40 minutes.

It felt like the Blackhawks needed to get the next goal, and they did less than five minutes into the third period — in ridiculous fashion. A really good Vegas team kept pressing and were able to tie the game with 2:28 left in regulation. And we got overtime — because of course!

The goaltending in overtime was INSANE!

Star 1: Connor Bedard

Bedard was noticeable the entire night. His speed was a problem from the opening puck drop, and he was fighting for pucks and scoring chances. He was good defensively. And, in the third period, he gave the Blackhawks the lead. I mean… c’mon. Really?!?

Star 2: Tyler Bertuzzi

Bertuzzi had the primary assist to set up the Blackhawks’ first goal of the night. It was pretty. His effort on the second goal was outstanding. Hart made the terrible decision to try to play the puck, but Bertuzzi was aware enough to make sure he checked up on the line before attacking the turnover. Vegas challenged the call and lost.

Star 3: Spencer Knight

Knight was really good tonight. Two goals that weren’t his fault/nothing he could do that went in off teammates shouldn’t tarnish a strong performance against a good Vegas team. He made a couple incredible saves before the third goal got put in and another right after the game was tied late in the third. He made a couple ridiculous saves in overtime, including one on a Mark Stone breakaway.

Key Takeaways

Ilya Mikheyev was absolutely outstanding tonight. He got a penalty called on a short-handed scoring chance in the second period. At the end of 40 minutes, Mikheyev and Jason Dickinson had an expected Goals Against of 0.0 at 5-on-5. Zero. Point. Zero. While Mikheyev was on the ice at 5-on-5 in the first two periods (8:54), the Blackhawks had a 5-1 shots on goal advantage and 11-3 shot attempt advantage. In the first period, Dickinson won 4 of 5 faceoffs. At the end of 40 minutes, Dickinson was 8-for-11. Unfortunately, he took Artyom Levshunov‘s stick to the eye with a little more than six minutes left in regulation and had to go to the room for assistance. Thankfully he was back before the end of regulation. I thought Levshunov had a really good night defensively. He broke up a couple scoring chances at big moments. Oliver Moore scored the first goal of the game and was absolutely flying out of the gates. He had a second good shot attempt that was just high and wide in the first period.

— BlackhawksFocus (@FocusBlackhawks) December 3, 2025 Frank Nazar had the second assist on Moore’s goal; he has an assist in seven of his last nine games. He was also good in the faceoff circle, winning four of eight in the first two periods, and had three scoring chances to lead the team thru 40 minutes. He drew a penalty in the middle of the third period on a scoring chance. Alex Vlasic dusted off the offense tonight. At the end of two periods, he led the Blackhawks with seven shot attempts, was tied for the team lead (with Nazar) with three scoring chances and had one of the Blackhawks’ five high danger chances. After the first “shot” went in (off Kaiser), the Blackhawks played a really good first period. The Hawks had a 15-11 shot attempt advantage and 6-3 advantage in scoring chances at 5-on-5 thru 20 minutes. The Blackhawks’ power play was 0-2 with one shot on net in the first period. That one shot was a howitzer from Bedard that was barely caught. Their third power play — which started after 19 seconds of 4-on-4 after the Blackhawks killed a penalty — wasn’t effective, either. The fourth was cut short by a Blackhawks penalty. The Blackhawks’ fifth power play in the third period saw more short-handed chances for Vegas than power play attempts. Not a good night for either unit. Mitch Marner didn’t have a shot attempt until three minutes into the second period. Kaiser had a couple huge shot blocks on Vegas’ first power play in the second period. Outside of the goal going in off him in the second period, Grelzcyk had a good night.
