The Stanford men’s swimming and diving program have added Alec Scott as a full-time coach in the newly created Skip Kenny Assistant Coach position, the school announced on Monday.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Alec into this role. Those close to the program know this has been a long time coming,” said men’s head coach Dan Schemmel. “Alec has given countless hours, shared his knowledge and experience, and most importantly, has been a fantastic mentor to our student-athletes. He has played a crucial role in our success over the past seven years, and I’m extremely grateful we now have the opportunity to have him with us full-time.”
“It is a dream come true for me to be joining the Stanford men’s swimming and diving program in a full-time capacity,” Scott said. “I am incredibly grateful for the trust and confidence of Dan, Mike, and the team, and I am really excited to see what we can accomplish together!”
Scott has been a volunteer assistant with the program since 2019 and has helped coach the team to five consecutive top-10 finishes and over 60 All-Americans. He joins the coaching staff full-time led by Schemmel. The staff also includes Mike Stephens as associate head coach and Patrick Jeffrey as head diving coach.
In addition to spending time with the Stanford men, Scott has also served on Alto Swim Club’s (a USA Swimming Club) coaching staff as a lead coach for the National Group. He helped coach over 110 swimmers to Junior National Cuts.
Prior to his time at Stanford and Alto Swim Club, Scott spent time on the staff at his alma mater Alabama. He also spent time at Northern Colorado where he helped the team to three Western Athletic Conference championships and seven school records.
Scott was a volunteer assistant for Alabama for the 2016-2017 season where he helped coach the team to 33 All-American honors and seven school records. He graduated from Alabama in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He began his collegiate career at Indian River State College.
The Stanford men finished 10th at the 2026 NCAA Championships with 136 points. The team was led by Henry McFadden who scored 16 individual points.
