Blame Game, Goalies, Brossoit Rumors, Prospect Highlights, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Because the comments have become predictably lazy about the Blackhawks’ performance on Friday night — specifically those exclusively blaming Arvid Söderblom — let’s talk about that for a moment. Söderblom was not great against Buffalo or Nashville, two teams with bad records. That’s true. But blaming a goaltender exclusively tells me you either didn’t watch the game or refuse to acknowledge that, in both of those games, there were more flat tires on the ice than just the guy between the pipes.

Söderblom absolutely needs to be better than he was in either of those games. But he’s clearly the NHL back-up right now. Drew Commesso is not that guy yet, and suggesting he should get a look right now tells me you just want to make the cliché comment about change for the sake of change without considering the current reality.

Commesso has allowed at least three goals in four of seven starts in November, and has an .892 save percentage in the month. If we remove him allowing seven goals in his last start, Commesso’s save percentage improves to .912. That isn’t dominating to the point he should get called up based on performance.

— Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) November 30, 2025 With that being said, an emerging elephant in the room is Laurent Brossoit, who has finally joined his Blackhawks teammates on the ice about… 14 months after we expected to see him. He will reportedly join the Rockford IceHogs next week to begin a rehab stint. During his “Saturday Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada (video above), Elliotte Friedman reported the Blackhawks have given other teams permission to speak with Brossoit’s camp about trading for him.

“The Blackhawks don’t really have room for him. He’s carrying a $3.3 million cap hit, not everybody can take that, so there might be some work that needs to be done here, but he will be watched very closely, and the Blackhawks have allowed people to talk to him.”

Teuvo Teräväinen didn’t practice on Saturday and is questionable for this afternoon’s game against the Ducks. Yesterday I wrote about Oliver Moore maybe getting a reset in Rockford at some point. The replies on Twitter 100 percent tell me nobody read the actual argument, so I ignored them. But there are another couple layers that I think could use additional comment this morning.

Do the Blackhawks Need to Consider an Oliver Moore Rockford Reset? #blackhawks t.co/i5Mj5u8D45

— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) November 29, 2025 First: Frank Nazar appeared in 21 games in Rockford last year before he was called up. Moore got nine with the IceHogs this year. The sample size was more significant from Nazar last year. Second: Moore’s role has evolved during the Blackhawks’ five-game losing streak in large part because veterans André Burakovsky, Tyler Bertuzzi, Jason Dickinson and Nick Foligno have missed time. Each of those four players has unique skills and plays a specific role on the team. What Moore brings to the table, and the roles in which he’s best suited, are not what those guys do. Getting him into the role they project him to play in the NHL and playing that consistently (read: more minutes, more situations) with the same linemates in Rockford could help him work on a few things. Again, I don’t view going back to Rockford as a negative. I would prefer Moore get consistent minutes in Rockford. Let guys like Landon Slaggert and Sam Lafferty skate in the extra forward roles; I’m not a huge fan of Moore getting the nine minutes he did against Nashville. And the underlying numbers I considered in the piece tell me he’s struggling. In the college ranks, UMass lost a tough one 5-4 at West Point. But Blackhawks prospect Václav Nestrašil had a big night, scoring twice (both coming on the power play) and adding an assist.

— HockeyWithZak (@HockeyWithZak) November 29, 2025 In the WHL, Nathan Behm had two assists in a 5-4 Kamloops win on Friday night. He scored this goal in the middle of the second period on Saturday night. Behm also had an assist in the third period for a second straight two-point night.

— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) November 30, 2025 On Friday night, AJ Spellacy scored his eighth goal of the season. That gave Spellacy a goal in three straight games, and he scored in seven of 11 games. Spellacy added an assist in Windsor’s 3-2 win on Saturday night. He’s heating up. Jack Pridham had two assists in a 6-3 Kitchener win on Friday night. He did not record a point against Parker Holmes on Saturday night; Brantford won the game 4-3. Marek Vanacker didn’t play against Kitchener on Saturday night because he was serving a one-game suspension.

#OHL Disciplinary Action:Brantford’s Marek Vanacker has been suspended for one game as a result of actions (Game Misc., Unsportsmanlike Conduct) on Nov. 28th at Brampton.

— Ontario Hockey League (@OHLHockey) November 29, 2025 With the Ducks in town this afternoon, we know who won’t be in net for Anaheim. On Friday, the Ducks announced Lukáš Dostál will be out 2-3 weeks because of an upper-body injury. Tough blow here for the Islanders: veteran forward Kyle Palmieri is done for the year with an ACL tear. On brand for Palmieri, he went out battling. He blew the knee but still made a play to set up a goal on his way off the ice. Respect. twitter.com/spittinchiclets/status/1994530770828816683
