CSU Rams in QB quandary following suspension of Darius Curry ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

In the wake of the suspension of quarterback Darius Curry, Colorado State’s quarterback situation going into Friday’s season finale against Air Force is up in the air.

Asked about it at his weekly press conference Monday, CSU interim head coach Tyson Summers’ initial response was, “You tell me.”

Summers added he hopes to have an answer by Wednesday, two days ahead of the finale against the Falcons.

“We’ll get through today,” Summers said. “We’ll get through today and we’ll try to make sure that we give ourselves the best chance we can win with the guys that are available.”

Curry, a redshirt freshman, made his first start for the Rams on Saturday taking over for Jackson Brousseau who was injured the week prior.

However, Curry was one of two players suspended for the final contest following unsportsmanlike incidents against Boise State on Saturday. Curry was caught on camera spitting at a Boise State player in the second half of CSU’s 49-21 loss to the Broncos.

CSU released a statement Sunday saying Curry, along with offensive lineman Liam Wortmann would be suspended for the game against Air Force for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Summers addressed the incident again Monday.

“We want to be known as a good football team,” Summers said. “We want to be known as a team with high standards and high conduct, and I apologize for us not holding that part of it up the other night. I’ve got to do a better job with those things.

“We took a lot of time to make sure that we tried to gather as much information as possible through the weekend and try to do a good job of communicating and handling that situation correctly. Those two young men that we’re talking about are exceptional people that made poor decisions in a short amount of time.”

CSU’s depth chart was not updated prior to the Boise State game and still listed Brousseau as the starter and Curry as the backup. With Curry out of picture now, the Rams are presented with a dilemma at the position.

The only other CSU quarterback to see action this season is redshirt senior Tahj Bullock, who only played as a running quarterback option.

The transfer from Akron has played in seven of the Rams’ 11 games this season. He has run the ball 31 times for a net 10 yards and three touchdowns. He has two receptions for 15 yards and has attempted only one pass.

He had one catch for 16 yards in the Rams’ season-opening loss at Washington and rushed seven times for 23 yards the following week against Northern Colorado.

Brousseau status isn’t clear either. He was scheduled to have more tests and although he hasn’t been ruled out for Friday’s game, his availability is doubtful.

If Bullock or any other player starts at quarterback Friday, he will be the fourth starting quarterback for the Rams this season.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi started the year as the Rams’ quarterback but was benched earlier in the season and then left the team. Brousseau replaced Fowler-Nicolosi and started seven games in a row but was injured against New Mexico on Nov. 15.

In seven games as the team’s starter and the Rams’ loss to UTSA in which he made a late appearance, Brousseau completed 100 of 164 passes for 1,031 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions.
