Missouri State High School Activities Association Boys’ Class 1 State Championships
Nov. 13-14 St. Peters, Missouri SCY (25 yards) ResultsIt was a record-breaking performance for Whitaker Steward and another team title for Parkway Central at the Missouri Class 1 State Championships.
Steward, a senior at Kearney who has committed to Tennessee, finished his career with seven individual state titles.
He first won his third straight title in the 200 free, in the process setting a Class 1 record with a personal best time of 1:38.22. His previous best was 1:38.36 at last year’s state meet.
Later, Steward made it four straight titles in the 500 free, claiming the title in a time of 4:23.98.
Outside Steward, it was a dominant performance by Parkway Central.
Parkway Central as a team captured its fourth straight title, finishing more than 50 points ahead of runner-up Kirkwood.
Parkway Central had two swimmers win multiple events, joining Steward in having that distinction.
Senior Brody Blatt, a Colorado Mesa commit, won the 100 free in 45.03 and the 100 back in 50.;18, both personal best times.
Connor Muran, a junior, won the 200 IM in a personal best 1:50.49, improving on a 3rd-place finish last year. He later won the 100 breast in a personal best time of 54.86.
Blatt and Muran also swam on two winning relay teams.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Nathan Malt (25.32), Muran (24.73), Hunter Deutschmann (23.20) and Winston Rees (21.74) won in a time of 1:34.99.
The 200 free relay was won by Parkway Central’s team of Blatt (20.78), Chase Bryant (22.38), Winston Rees (22.41) and Muran (20.95) in a time of 1:26.52.
Parkway Central also won the 400 free relay behind the quartet of Malt (49.38), Peyton Dimmock (50.73), Hunter Deutschmann (49.02) and Blatt (44.33) in a time of 3:13.46.
Other individual winners were Notre Dame Regional junior Hudson Dennis in the 50 free with a personal best time of 21.16, Grain Valley senior Gage Wright in 1-meter diving with a score of 453.05, and Glendale senior Carson Butler in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 50.27.
