“It was great fun last night to be a special guest at the MMA fights... Adrenaline was pumping! Awesome fights! Many thanks!” Turner wrote.
An announcer introduced Turner to the crowd with, “I would like to introduce to you our special guest for this night… the legendary golden voice of Deep Purple and Rainbow bands… Mr. Joe Lynn Turner!”
Fans hit the comment section to note that “Smoke in the Water,” which was recorded with Ian Gillan on vocals more than 50 years ago, isn’t exactly known as a Joe Lynn Turner song.
“So glad they played the classic Turner song Smoke On The Water,” another cracked.
“Love Joe but they should of play Stone Cold instead,” added a Facebook fan.
Turner has a huge rock music resume but is best known for his work with Rainbow. In the early 1980s, he was lead singer on three Rainbow albums and was the voice behind some of the band's biggest songs, including “I Surrender,” “Jealous Lover,” “Stone Cold,” and “Street of Dreams.” He also released two albums with Yngwie Malmsteen before joining Deep Purple for one album, “Slaves and Masters" in 1990. In addition, Turner released nine solo albums between 1985 and 2022.
According to Russian Gazette, today Turner lives in both the USA and Eastern Europe, but spends more time in the latter country. After meeting his wife in Moscow, he moved to her native country, Belarus, which explains why he was in town for the MMA event.
