Lynchburg, Virginia – The Ohio Swimming and Diving team returned to the Liberty Natatorium for day two of the TYR ’85 Invite. After the second day of competition, the Bobcats remain in first place, with Junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) and Junior Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) earning first-place finishes.
Ohio finished the day in first place with a score of 1927, followed by the hosts, Liberty, with a score of 1600, Campbell with a score of 961, UNC Pembroke with a score of 819, Saint Francis with a score of 635, California (PA) with a score of 414, Georgia Southern with a score of 154, and UNC-Asheville with a score of 59.
In the first event of the night, Pichardo earned a first-place finish in 3-meter diving with a score of 301.45. During the swim portion of the meet, Ohio earned a second-place finish in the 4×50 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.83. Freshman Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), senior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Szoke, and freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) competed in the relay for the Bobcats.
In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W.V.) finished in second place with a time of 54.23, and freshman Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) finished in third place with a time of 55.31.
Seniors Morgan Brown (Fort Wayne, Ind) and Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) both finished in the top five of the 400-yard IM. Brown finished in second place with a time of 4:24.05, and Ellsworth finished in fourth place with a time of 4:26.81.
Szoke took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.83. Freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 1:51.08, and sophomore Ashlyn Morr finished in fifth place with a time of 1:51.96 (Galena, Ohio).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, DiBetta earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:00.45, and Ellsworth finished in third place with a time of 1:02.79.
Baumgartner and junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) both swam in the 100-yard backstroke, with Baumgartner finishing in third place with a time of 54.88 and Schweikert finishing in fourth place with a time of 55.21.
In the final event of the evening, the Bobcats’ 4×200-yard freestyle relay of Kollin, Morr, junior Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.), and senior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished in second place with a time of 7:30.03.

Campbell (961) is in third, with UNC Pembroke (819) in fourth. Saint Francis (Pa.) (635) and California (Pa.) (414) are in fifth and sixth, respectively. Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville have divers only competing at Liberty this weekend.

Liberty won six events tonight, the 200 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, 100 fly (Kamryn Cannings), 400 IM (Riley Leach), 100 breaststroke (Aly Bozzuto) and 100 backstroke (Gwyneth Frick). Ohio won three-meter diving and the 200 freestyle. The Lady Flames edged Ohio in the 200 medley relay to open the evening, with Liberty winning by .47 seconds (1:38.36 to 1:38.83). Liberty’s Kamryn Cannings won the 100 fly in NCAA standard time 52.44, nearly two seconds clear of second place. Teammates Carly Larson (55.45) and Emily Harstad (56.77) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Riley Leach of Liberty won the 400 IM in 4:21.80, beating second-place Morgan Brown of Ohio by 2.25 seconds. Ohio’s Zita Szoke claimed the 200 free in 1:45.83, with Liberty getting second (Natalie Colarossi – 1:49.85), fourth (Sadie Huenefeld – 1:51.67) and sixth (Emma Herrera – 1:52.02). Liberty’s Aly Bozzuto claimed the 100 breaststroke in NCAA-standard 1:00.26, narrowly beating Ohio’s Casadie DiBetta (1:00.45). Karis Francis placed seventh in 1:04.86. Liberty took the top two spots in the 100 backstroke, with Gwyneth Frick winning in 52.97 and Dakota Howard (54.20) taking second. Malia Francis (55.24) finished fifth. The Lady Flames finished third (Shannon Icard – 286.30), fourth (Mercy Goodnight – 267.40), sixth (Chloe LaCount – 257.85) and eighth (Savannah Watts – 237.80) in three-meter diving. Icard earned an NCAA Zone Championships qualifying score of 286.30 in the final, while Mercy Goodnight’s 294.40 from prelims also was good for a spot at Zones. The Liberty 200 medley relay swam 1:38.36, placing them fourth on Liberty’s all-time list. Gwyneth Frick is now fourth all-time at Liberty in the 100 backstroke (52.97) and fifth in the 50 backstroke (25.16) with her results from today. Howard’s 54.20 in the 100 backstroke A Final tonight in ranked seventh in program history. Goodnight’s 294.40 from prelims this morning is sixth all-time at Liberty for three-meter diving. Leach stands in eighth place at Liberty with her 4:21.80 in the 400 IM in tonight’s A Final. Liberty’s 7:20.66 from tonight’s 800 free relay ranks 10th on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list in that event.Up Next Tomorrow’s morning prelims start at 10 a.m. with the 200 backstroke, followed by the 100 free, 200 breaststroke and 200 fly. Platform diving will also take place. The evening session begins at 5 p.m. with the 1650 freestyle and end with the 400 freestyle relay.
