Cupcake Week was apparently a pretty impactful one in the SEC.
Even though Alabama played Eastern Illinois (winning 56-0 with 8 rushing touchdowns) and Georgia played Charlotte (winning 35-3), ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) saw enough to bump the Tide ahead of the Bulldogs and back into the top 5.
Georgia fell 2 spots, actually, despite the win. The top 5 now consists of Ohio State, Indiana, Notre Dame, Oregon and Alabama, in that order.
Georgia checks in at No. 6 this week, with Texas A&M also cracking the top 10 at No. 9.
Here’s a look at how the top 25 of the updated FPI rankings shakes out following Week 13:
Ohio State Indiana Notre Dame Oregon Alabama Georgia Texas Tech Utah Texas A&M Miami USC Texas Ole Miss Oklahoma BYU Tennessee Vanderbilt Michigan Penn State Mizzou Washington Iowa SMU Auburn LSUWe’re holding steady at 11 SEC teams in the top 25. The 5 squads not to make the cut this week were: South Carolina (No. 27), Arkansas (No. 36), Kentucky (No. 38), Florida (No. 41) and Mississippi State (No. 48).
