— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) November 21, 2025 Play-In Preview Part IV!? The Bulls and Miami Heat have become uncomfortably familiar with one another over the last handful of years. While the two franchises have published very similar regular-season stories, the postseason has provided very different results. Erik Spoelstra has embarrassed the Bulls in three straight Play-In Tournaments. The latest matchup offered the most brutal beatdown yet, as the Heat ran the Bulls of the United Center court 109-90. Billy Donovan and his players have talked A LOT about that game during the offseason, referencing it specifically when discussing the need for increased physicality. With that in mind, I expect this group to take a page out of the Michael Jordan handbook tonight. This one is personal! Now, does this mean I expect the Bulls to walk away victorious? The fact that they are 5-1 on their home court this season should provide some confidence, but the Heat have also gotten off to a pretty strong 9-6 start. They are fresh off back-to-back wins over the Knicks and Warriors, moving to the 13th-best net rating in the NBA. This group has been particularly stout on the defensive end, where they have held teams to the third-lowest field goal percentage in the NBA (43.4 percent). Only the Thunder and Celtics have been better in this department. Miami also got back easily their best defender in Bam Adebayo against Golden State. Missing six consecutive games, he returned and recorded 20 points with 2 blocks and a steal in less than 30 minutes of action. The good news is that Tyler Herro will not make his season debut against the Bulls. The guard dropped 38 points on Chicago in that Play-In game on 13-19 shooting from the field and 9-10 shooting at the free throw line. Without him on the floor, the Heat offense certainly feels less intimidating, but we also shouldn’t ignore Norman Powell. The guard has picked up where he left off after last year’s breakout campaign. He is scoring 25.4 points per game on fantastic efficiency, shooting 49.5 percent from the field and a ridiculous 47.0 percent from three. Also, similar to Chicago, this is a Miami team that likes to share the wealth. EIGHT players are averaging 10+ points per game, and six of those players have appeared in every game thus far. So not only might the Bulls have a slightly harder time scoring against this defensive unit, but their own defense will need to be ready for plenty ball movement. Miami is averaging the second-most points in the paint per game. Again, similar to Chicago, they love to play a grab-and-go game that pushes the ball down the floor and sets up easy looks at the rim. Only two teams have played at a higher PACE than the Bulls this season: Miami and Portland. They just took down one. Can they take down the other? Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images As if the stakes didn’t already feel high enough, tonight is also the Bulls’ second NBA Cup game! They are 1-1 in group stage play so far, and the same goes for the Knicks and Heat. Milwaukee leads the pack at 2-0. Nevertheless, if they can pull off this victory with only a four-win Hornets team left on the schedule, they will have a real shot at advancing for the first time in franchise history. Even if the Bucks do go undefeated or tie the Bulls (they’d have the upper hand since they won the head-to-head matchup), the Bulls could still make the knockout round by being the best non-group winner. Keep in mind, a Cup game means that starters will be in the whole time, no matter the score. Point differential can be a key difference-maker in the group stage, so there will be an attempt to run up the score. K.C. Johnson joined the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score this morning to talk about the Bulls’ up-and-down start to the year. He explained that Wednesday night’s exciting buzzer-beating win felt like anything but in the team’s locker room, which I think says a lot about the new mental make-up of this group. Nikola Vucevic said it on air shortly after the game, but the Bulls shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place. Blowing a 21-point lead in 9 minutes is unacceptable. Recognizing that is the first step in making sure it doesn’t happen again. Johnson also brought up a telling stat, which I double-checked: The Bulls are the only winning team in the league to have a negative net rating. To be sure, it comes right up against the threshold at -0.1, but this doesn’t do much to fend off those who still see this as a “mid” team. This feels especially true after we saw them sit in the league’s Top 5 for the first week and a half of the season. Noa Essengue is headed back to the G League. Despite the Bulls’ congested schedule, head coach Billy Donovan has still chosen not to give the rookie any playing time. In fact, he was the ONLY healthy and available player against the Trail Blazers who didn’t see any playing time. The Windy City Bulls are in Iowa tonight for a meeting with the Timberwolves’ affiliate, so I think we can expect Essengue to suit up for his second career game.Roster Up We have assigned Noa Essengue to the@WindyCityBulls pic.twitter.com/8AohhpywMh
