Blackhawks 3, Maple Leafs 2 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Artyom Levshunov Experience made an appearance 11 minutes into the first period, as the Blackhawks’ rookie defenseman was part of an incredibly strong cycle that had the Leafs pinned in their zone seemingly forever (68 seconds). The sequence ended with a terrific individual effort from Levshunov, who set up the game’s first goal. His confidence is climbing every game, and he’s making an impact. Unfortunately, Nick Robertson scored on a fluky bounce inside the final 48 seconds of the first period to tie the game.

The Blackhawks had a few amazing looks early in the second, especially for Levshunov who made a couple nice passes and then had a chance to attack the net himself but couldn’t finish. Morgan Reilly did finish when he got a good look at an open cage; the Blackhawks challenged there was a missed high stick earlier in the shift. The call was confirmed and the Hawks went to the PK trailing by one in the middle of the period. The Blackhawks out-shot the Leafs 11-5 in the second period but trailed by one after 40 minutes.

Frank Nazar made a special play early in the third period to set up a highlight reel goal that tied the game at two. The tying goal was the Blackhawks’ first shot on net in the period; Toronto already had seven. After the goal, the Blackhawks started to really bring it. The Blackhawks were able to take a lead late in the third period.

Star 1: Teuvo Teräväinen

His game-tying goal in the third period was absolutely filthy. Full marks to Nazar for making a terrific, strong play to fight thru traffic to get retrieve the puck and set him up, but the finish was luscious.

Star 2: Artyom Levshunov

It was simply impossible to take your eyes off Levshunov when he was on the ice tonight. By the end of the second period, he led the team in shots on goal (four), was tied for the team lead in blocked shots (two) and had two hits credited in a team-high 15:14 on the ice. By the end of the second period at 5-on-5, Levshunov was on the ice for the most Blackhawks’ shot attempts (13) and second-most shot attempts against (16). he had the highest on-ice expected Goals For (0.92) and expected Goals Against (1.12). Levshunov is what some might call a high event player.

Key Takeaways

Ryan Greene scored the first goal of the game at 11:05 into the first period.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 16, 2025 With 90 seconds left in the second period, Nick Foligno blocked a shot and it hurt. He went straight to the room and was ruled out for the rest of the night. That was far from ideal because Foligno was having a really good game. The Blackhawks’ captain had three shots on goal, two hits and — most importantly — led the Hawks with 6 wins in 11 faceoff attempts. The rest of the Blackhawks’ roster was 6-of-23 at the dot thru two periods (and Nazar was 3-for-6). For a guy who was doubtful at the morning skate, Nazar skated his ass off tonight. He was tied for the team lead with two blocked shots by the end of the second period and started to show off his “other gear” with the wheels in the third period. It was good to see Oliver Moore pick up the second assist on Teräväinen’s goal. His speed was noticeable again on every shift. Spencer Knight was really good again. Unfortunately, Connor Bedard‘s point streak ended. Even though he was on the ice for the morning skate, Tyler Bertuzzi was a scratch.
