Criminal Security department in Lattakia coastal province has arrested an individual involved in online blackmail targeting several young women through social media platforms, following close monitoring and tracking by the authorities concerned.
Interior Ministry stated on its Telegram channel that investigations revealed the individual had been using fake accounts to contact his victims, exploiting personal photos of them that he had obtained through various means, later threatening to publish those photos in return for money.
The ministry added that, after continuous monitoring and coordination among units concerned, the perpetrator’s identity and residence were identified.
He was arrested and the electronic devices used in his criminal activities were confiscated.
According to the ministry, the suspect confessed to the charges during interrogation.
