The latest celebrity to take part in challenges to raise huge amounts of cash for Children in Need is BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox.
The host is currently taking on the equivalent of five marathons in five days, covering 135 miles on foot across four counties.
At the time this story was published, the host had raised a staggering more than £3m through her Great Northern Marathon Challenge/
After learning she had reached the more than £1m mark yesterday morning, Sara was reduced to tears and expressed gratitude for the public’s generosity.
She told fellow Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills on his programme: “That’s amazing. Thank you. You’ve completely broken me. Everybody who has donated, thank you so much.”
Ahead of her challenge, Cox highlighted the good work children’s charities do, saying: “You don’t really realise that there’s hundreds of charities all around the UK getting help by Children In Need and you don’t really realise the amazing work they’re doing until you need them yourself, god forbid, you get a diagnosis out of the blue, or your child starts to struggle.”

Last year, Paddy McGuinness secured a place in the hearts of millions of BBC Radio Two listeners after completing a gruelling 300-mile ride across the UK on a customised kids Chopper bike for Children in Need.
The comedian and presenter raised a staggering £9m and counting for the charity over the course of a week.
Cycling from Wrexham to Glasgow, he covered all three nations of England, Wales and Scotland in the course of his Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge on the iconic kids Raleigh bike he nicknamed Patch.
Along the way he had help and encouragement from Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy, chart-topping band Blue, fellow comedian and friend Peter Kay and 1980s pop band Black Lace as well as thousands of members of the public, who lined the streets to support him and donate to the charity.
Before McGuinness’s incredible fundraising feat, his Radio Two colleague Vernon Kay had already raised the bar in both challenge and donations with his Ultra Ultramarathon Challenge in 2023.

He told his Radio Two colleague Zoe Ball: “I’m in shellshock right now.”
Pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor took on the 2021 challenge with her Kitchen Disco Danceathon, dancing non-stop for 24 hours.
She raised £1,257,959 in total for children’s charities across the UK.
Completing the challenge, she said: “It’s actually been really fun.
“It’s been an honour – but am I allowed to not dance or talk to people any more?”

BBC presenter Matt Baker, from Countryfile and The One Show, raised more than £45m for Children in Need over the course of 13 years with his Rickshaw Challenge which saw him cycle across the country each year raising funds.
However, he announced in 2023 it would not be happening.
In a social media post he wrote: “For those asking about the Rickshaw Challenge… I’m sorry to say that as BBC Children in Need’s programming offerings and fundraising initiatives change year by year, the Rickshaw Challenge isn’t happening this year.
