ROCHESTER, N.Y. — If your natural gas meter is inside your home, crews will move it outside of your home soon, if you’re an RG&E or NYSEG customer.
The utility companies are continuing their meter move-out program across their service areas. An official with RG&E and NYSEG says moving the meters outdoors makes them easier for the companies to inspect the meters. It also allows crews to access the meter in case of an emergency response.
Customers will get a notification in the mail about when crews will begin their work in their neighborhood. To move the meters, natural gas must be shut off for one to three hours. Once the meter is reinstalled, the contractor will make sure everything is working properly.
The move-out program began earlier this year. Any customers with questions can call RG&E at 800-743-2110 or NYSEG at 800-572-1111. Officials say 40% of gas meters for RG&E customers and 22% of gas meters for NYSEG customers are inside.
