249 and change is almost 250 years of change
The colonies broke away from Britain in 1776 to escape oppressive power. Self-government motivated each colony to sacrifice power and privilege to become united as states. A Democratic Republic was created to govern America. A constitution was established, and histories were built, destroyed, and adjusted to accommodate change.
Power was decided by ownership of land and property. It came at a great loss to the natives, and part of that property was human beings. This eventually led to Civil War. War with the natives followed. Then Jim Crow, two World Wars, and sandwiched between these wars was a financial crisis of global proportions.
After the second World War, a period of growth and prosperity brought us to the space age, the Cold War followed by the information age, and now the social media age. As soon as there are enough computer chips, we will be consumed by the AI age. And let us not forget the Golden Age to come.
Finding political stability is the prime goal of those we send to represent us in our nation’s capital. It is elusive, but not impossible, and opens the doors to economic and social prosperity for the common citizen. If they will just show up.
Our 250 years of history has not altered the inequality of race or the inequality of economic well-being. Out with foreigners, in with white supremacists. Crush DEI and education. Reductions in housing and affordable health care. Suppression of criticism. I read that we learn more from our mistakes, than we do from our successes when considering history.
Note the second paragraph in this letter. Every election is about this. Can we make it about the belief that others may share in a country rich in culture and diversity? Let us restore the sense and sensibility of a mature society.

Seeing old news
I would like to know why you keep publishing old articles in the Tribune? I just saw another one which was the 3-year-old daughter of a police officer attacked by father’s retired police dog. Published originally on Aug. 12, 2025, and is again in the Tribune today, Nov. 5, 2025. I’ve noticed many old articles like that recently. Why can’t you report on what happened on Nov. 3 when 23rd Avenue was shut down because of police activity? Or other recent news, not old articles like that!
