‘I wouldn’t wish this on nobody’: Rochester dad takes legal action over false death notification of missing daughter ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester man, Mark Crews, and his family have filed a lawsuit against the city of Rochester, the Rochester Police Department, Monroe County, and the county medical examiner. This legal action follows a shocking revelation that his daughter, Shanice Crews, who was declared dead, is actually alive.

Last year, Rochester police informed Crews that Shanice’s body was discovered in woods along the Hudson Avenue. The medical examiner’s office reportedly identified the body using dental records. After cremating the body and holding a memorial service, Crews learned that Shanice was alive and residing in Detroit.

“I think they rushed to close a missing person case, I truly believe that,” Crews said. “Not never thinking this would happen — because if this didn’t happen I was going to just learn how to live without my daughter thinking she deceased. It’s just devastating, man, I wouldn’t wish this on nobody.”

Crews is seeking compensation for funeral expenses and emotional distress.

News10NBC has reached out to the city and county for a response.
