A mobile lounge hit a dock at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) Monday afternoon, sending 18 people to the hospital.
Crystal Nosal, part of the Metro Washington Airports Authority’s (MWAA) media relations office, told The Hill that at roughly 4:30 p.m., the lounge, while taking passengers to Concourse D, struck a dock at an angle as it pulled up to the building. The MWAA oversees IAD and Reagan International Airport.
Nosal added that passengers deboarded the lounge via stairs and were evaluated by MWAA Fire & Rescue personnel. The fire department took 18 people, with what Nosal described as“non-life threatening injuries,” to a local hospital.
She added that IAD, located in Loudoun and Fairfax counties in Virginia, is open and operating as normal.
The airport has 19 mobile lounges that can carry 102 people, 71 of whom can be seated, according to its website. Each lounge, which weighs 76,500 pounds, is 54 feet long, 16 feet wide and 17.5 feet high.
